Antes de 1988

As competi es pioneiras do kayaksurf ocorreram nos 1960 na Gr -Bretanha e nas costas leste e oeste dos Estados Unidos da Am rica (EUA). Entretanto, Inglaterra, Irlanda do Norte, Pa s de Gales, Esc cia e Jersey, competiam entre si em eventos brit nicos organizados pela BCU (British Canoe Union). Do outro lado do Atl ntico, os norte americanos realizavam igualmente algumas competi es de kayaksurf. Oregon, por exemplo, tem competi es regulares da modalidade desde 1980. O festival de kayaksurf de Santa Cruz, organizado pela "Adventure Sports, Unlimited, of Santa Cruz", foi o maior dos eventos organizado nos EUA. Desde 1985 que, em Mar o, se realiza em Steamer Lane este renomado campeonato

The pioneering kayak surfing competitions took place in the 1960s in Britain and on the east and west coasts of the United States of America (USA). However, England, Northern Ireland, Wales, Scotland, and Jersey competed against each other in British events organized by the British Canoe Union (BCU). On the other side of the Atlantic, North Americans also held some kayak surfing competitions. Oregon, for example, has had regular events in the sport since 1980. The Santa Cruz Kayak Surf Festival, organized by "Adventure Sports, Unlimited, of Santa Cruz," was the largest of the events organized in the USA. 1988

This was formally the year when the First World Kayak Surfing Championship took place. It was held in Thurso, Scotland. Neste ano, a "Adventure Sports, Unlimited, of Santa Cruz- California", acolheu e organizou o seu primeiro campeonato mundial de kayaksurf. Foi tamb m neste ano que pela primeira vez, a Am rica Central se fez representar com uma equipa oriunda da Costa Rica. Ao todo, estavam presentes selec es da Inglaterra, Irlanda, Pa s de Gales, Esc cia, Jersey e Canad . Os EUA ganharam a competi o. Na segunda posi o, ficou a selec o inglesa que se fez representar nuns inovadores kayaks de fibra de vidro da Mega Kayaks. Com a modalidade a ganhar cada vez mais visibilidade, eram j v rios os modelos para kayaksurf que se podiam ver na gua.

In this year, "Adventure Sports, Unlimited, of Santa Cruz - California," hosted and organized its first world kayak surfing championship. 1994

Foi no ano de 1994 que se realizou em Portugal a primeira competi o de waveski em Esposende e mais tarde, em 2000, realizou-se um novo evento na Costa da Caparica. No ano de 2003, disputou-se em Peniche o Primeiro Campeonato Internacional de Kayaksurf cidade onde se realizava uma prova anual desde ent o. Em 2005, foi criado o Circuito Nacional de Kayaksurf que contava anualmente com a realiza o de tr s ou quatro provas. Dois anos mais tarde, foi adicionada a disciplina de waveski assumindo a designa o de Circuito Nacional de Kayaksurf e Waveski.
A partir de 2010, passou a contar com o apoio oficial e organiza o da Federa o Portuguesa de Canoagem com a designa o de Campeonato Nacional de Kayaksurf e Waveski (CNKW). Foi ent o criada uma Comiss o Nacional para as disciplinas e o calend rio nacional deste campeonato, contava habitualmente com tr s ou quatro provas realizadas em diferentes praias de Portugal.

In 1994, the first waveski competition took place in Esposende, Portugal, and later in 2000, a new event was held in Costa da Caparica. Neste ano coube Costa Rica acolher e organizar o Campeonato do Mundo da modalidade. As guas mornas e o sol sempre convidativo de Boca Barranca, fizeram as del cias dos atletas oriundos das ilhas brit nicas, Brasil e EUA . Os norte americanos fizeram representar-se, pela primeira vez, com duas equipas oficiais - uma da costa leste, outra da oeste - numa clara prova de que a modalidade estava a ganhar cada vez mais adeptos. Neste ano, sagrou-se campe do mundo, a selec o da Inglaterra.

In this year, it was Costa Rica's turn to host and organize the World Championship of the sport. The warm waters and the ever-inviting sun of Boca Barranca delighted athletes from the British Isles, Brazil, and the USA. The Americans, for the first time, were represented by two official teams - one from the East Coast and another from the West Coast - a clear indication that the sport was gaining more and more enthusiasts. In this year, the England team became the world champion.

1997

Foi neste ano que, pela primeira vez, se juntaram competi o oficial as exibi es na classe "Hi Performance - HP". As Classifica es Internacionais (IC) dos kayaks requerem que todos os barcos sejam avaliados em tr s vertentes: que tenham 3 metros de comprimento, com um "hull" convexo e sem finos. Os barcos da HP, s o completamente livres quanto ao seu formato - mas sempre sit-in - e podem incluir finos semelhan a das pranchas de surf de forma a permitir-lhes outras manobras nas ondas. Neste ano, a Inglaterra renovou o t tulo de Campe Mundial de Kayaksurf.

Brazil, Spain, and France participated in the event, along with the USA, Costa Rica, and the remaining teams from the British Canoe Union (BCU). In the water, the new fiberglass wave kayaks from WOLDSKI, along with those designed by Mike Johnson and Necky, posed a strong challenge to the renowned Mega Kayaks. It was in this year that, for the first time, exhibitions in the "Hi Performance - HP" class joined the official competition. The International Classifications (IC) for kayaks require that all boats be evaluated in three aspects: they must be 3 meters long, have a convex hull, and be without fins. HP boats are entirely free in their shape - but always sit-in - and may include fins similar to surfboards, allowing for additional maneuvers on the waves. In this year, England retained the title of World Kayak Surfing Champion.

1999

Rio de Janeiro, no Brasil, acolhia o Campeonato Mundial. O evento estava inclu do numa s rie de iniciativas que, durante tr s meses, foram organizadas em torno do surf. Durante este tempo, foram disputadas nas praias do rio, competi es de surf, wave-ski e kayaksurf. Nos kayaks, estiveram presentes as selec es da Inglaterra, Jersey, esc cia, Costa Rica, Espanha, Argentina, EUA- Leste e EUA- Oeste. Foi no Brasil que as provas de Hi Performance (HP), foram formalmente adicionadas s classes individuais e por equipas. Neste ano, a selec o Oeste dos EUA sagrou-se vencedora.

Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, hosted the World Championship. The event was part of a series of initiatives organized around surfing for three months. During this time, surf, wave-ski, and kayak surfing competitions took place on the river's beaches. In kayaking, teams from England, Jersey, Scotland, Costa Rica, Spain, Argentina, USA East, and USA West participated. 2001

Santa Cruz, na Calif rnia, acolheu o campeonato mundial de kayaksurf deste ano - decorreu de 13 a 18 de Mar o. Presentes, estiveram as selec es da Inglaterra, Esc cia, Irlanda, EUA-Oeste, e EUA-Este. Na sec o "Individual", contavam-se atletas vindos da Irlanda do Norte, Alemanha, Espanha, Pa s de Gales, Argentina, Brasil e Costa Rica. Foram postas em competi o as seguintes classes: nas provas individuais, classificavam-se os atletas em Internacional Classic (IC) e Hi Performance (HP), que se repartiam por homens, mulheres, juniores, masters (mais de 40 anos), isto para al m da classifica o geral de equipas/selec es. A min scula ilha brit nica de Jersey reivindicou o t tulo de campe do evento com fortes protestos por parte da selec o norte americana da costa Oeste.

Santa Cruz, California, hosted this year's World Kayak Surfing Championship, which took place from March 13 to 18. The participating teams included England, Scotland, Ireland, USA West, and USA East. In the "Individual" section, athletes from Northern Ireland, Germany, Spain, Wales, Argentina, Brazil, and Costa Rica competed. The tiny British island of Jersey claimed the championship title, leading to strong protests from the USA West team.

2003

O campeonato do mundo teve lugar em Sligo, na Irlanda, de 11 a 20 de Setembro. John Grossman (EUA) sagrou-se campe o mundial na classe masculina IC (International Classic); Simon Hammond, venceu na classe masculina HP (Hi Performance). No sector feminino, Lydia Fonvielle (EUA - Este) venceu a categoria IC e a irlandesa Nadine Kerin em HP. Na categoria dos veteranos (mais de 40 anos), venceu o escoc s Neil Baxter. Por equipas, sagrou-se campe mundial a selec o Irlandesa neste campeonato de 2003.

The World Championship took place in Sligo, Ireland, from September 11 to 20. John Grossman (USA) became the world champion in the men's IC (International Classic) class, while Simon Hammond emerged victorious in the men's HP (Hi Performance) class. In the women's division, Lydia Fonvielle (USA - East) won the IC category, and the Irish participant Nadine Kerin secured victory in the HP category. In the veteran category (over 40 years), the title went to Scottish participant Neil Baxter. The Irish team claimed the world championship title in the team competition at the 2003 championship.

2003

Realizou-se nos dias 20 e 21 de Setembro na Praia do Baleal, Peniche, o Primeiro Campeonato Internacional de Kayaksurf em Portugal. O evento contou com a organiza o do Clube de Canoagem guas Bravas de Portugal (CCABP) e com o apoio do pelouro do desporto da c mara municipal de Peniche. Durante os dois dias da competi o, 25 participantes inscritos foram sujeitos a sucessivas provas eliminat rias que antecederam a final onde s chegaram dois concorrentes. No final, Nuno Borges, do CCABP, conquistou o primeiro lugar desta competi o, sendo seguido pelos cano stas Rui Benedito (CCABP), segundo lugar e Raul Estrela (NABANCIA), terceiro lugar. The First International Kayak Surfing Championship in Portugal took place on September 20 and 21 at Baleal Beach in Peniche. The event was organized by the Whitewater Canoeing Club of Portugal (CCABP) with the support of the sports department of the Peniche City Council. Over the two days of the competition, 25 registered participants underwent successive elimination rounds leading up to the final, where only two competitors remained. In the end, Nuno Borges from CCABP claimed the first place in the competition, followed by kayakers Rui Benedito (CCABP) in second place and Raul Estrela (NABANCIA) in third place. A organiza o ficou satisfeita e os atletas tamb m elogiaram o evento. Presentes estiveram a Argentina, Pa s Basco, Brasil, Costa Rica, Inglaterra, Irlanda, Ilha de Jersey, Irlanda do Norte, Esc cia, Espanha, EUA - Team Este, EUA - Team Oeste e Pa s de Gales. Quanto a classifica es, foram as seguintes: por selec es ficaram do primeiro para o quarto lugar - Team U.S.A. WEST U.S.A. WEST (1 , 48 ponto); Team IRELAND (2 , 40 pontos); Team U.S.A. EAST U.S.A. Decorreu no fim de semana de 29 e 30 de Abril de 2006 em Mundaka mais uma prova europeia de kayaksurf. Tal como no ano passado, o mar estava (infelizmente) baixo e a famosa esquerda de Mundaka n o apareceu. Esta prova merece destaque porque foi a primeira prova internacional em que se fizeram representar kayaksurfistas portugueses: Ant nio Palavra, Andr Pinto e Paulo Lopes, todos inclu dos no TEAM MAR BRAVO. PARTICIPANTES: CLASSE HP: 34 CLASSE IC: 12 FEMININOS: 3 JUNIORES: 9 Locais de Origem dos participantes: PA S BASCO, PORTUGAL, JERSEY, PA S DE GALES, IRLANDA DO NORTE, EUA, INGLATERRA e da COSTA RICA, apesar de n o ter participado, Alejo Pacheco!
Presentes em Mundaka, estavam atletas oriundos do Pa s de Gales, Ilhas de Jersey, Inglaterra, EUA, Pa s Basco e Fran a. Todos equipados com kayaks de carbono excep o do nosso team se fez representar com tr s surfkayaks da MEGA de pl stico- dois Maverick e um X-Ray (Ant nio Palavra).

On the weekend of April 29 and 30, 2006, another European kayaksurf competition took place in Mundaka. Este ano calhou a 23 e 24 de Setembro. A prova final de Peniche, correspondia, simult neamente, final das quatro provas do circuito nacional de kayaksurf (VER REPORTAGENS). Foi tamb m neste ano que, pela primeira vez, se disputou a Ta a Nacional de Kayaksurf, s aberta a cano stas inscritos na Federa o Portuguesa de Canoagem. Foi tamb m neste ano que Portugal foi, pela primera vez, anfitri o da FINAL DA TA A DO MUNDO DE KAYAKSURF (WORLD FINALS) e da FINAL DO CAMPEONATO BRIT NICO DE KAYAKSURF (HOME INTERNATIONALS). Foi neste ano, no dia 14 de Abril, que se realizou a primeira Kayaksurf Session no pa s. O evento contou com a organiza o conjunta da Capit o Dureza, kayaksurf.net e Mar Bravo. O objectivo da organiza o foi plenamente atingido: promover o kayaksurf sem a vertente competitiva e atrair novos interessados na modalidade. A praia do Cabedelo na Figueira da Foz recebeu 62 kayaks que brilharam nas ondas num grande dia de surf.

O Pa s basco recebeu de 19 a 28 de Outubro 2007 o Campeonato Mundial de Kayaksurf. O kayaksurf.net apoiou oficialmente o evento onde, pela primeira vez, Portugal foi representado com dois kayaksurfistas.

Escrevemos dezenas de Surf Reports e estivemos presentes nas finais. Mundaka e Bakio ficar o na mem ria pelas grandes ondas e grande ambiente em que se realizou este Mundial. The Basque Country hosted the World Kayaksurf Championship from October 19 to 28, 2007. The kayaksurf.net officially supported the event, where Portugal was represented with two kayaksurfers for the first time. Dozens of Surf Reports were written, and we were present at the finals. A Ilha D'Oleron, na costa Atl ntica francesa, recebeu a segunda edi o da Ta a do Mundo de Kayaksurf. Rusty Sage, norte-americano campe o do mundo em HP, foi um dos grandes dinamizadores do evento. A Ta a do Mundo realiza-se alternadamente com o Campeonato do Mundo e, depois de Portugal em 2006, a final realizou-se pela primeira vez em territ rio franc s. A Ta a do Mundo deste ano tamb m passou por Portugal no Santa Cruz Ocean Spirit onde atletas oriundos do Pa s Basco, Inglaterra, Brasil, Espanha e Portugal, disputaram o p dio. O Basco Edu Etxeberria, o junior ingl s Phillip Watson e a brasileira Roberta Borsari, ganharam o evento.

Refira-se que na Ta a do Mundo, a nica classe em disputa a HP (Junior, Homens e Senhoras). O objectivo organizar as sucessivas etapas do circuito mundial em "picos de grande surf" com potencial medi tico.

The island of Oleron on the French Atlantic coast hosted the second edition of the World Kayaksurf Cup. Rusty Sage, the American world champion in HP, was one of the main drivers of the event. The World Cup alternates with the World Championship, and after Portugal in 2006, the final took place for the first time on French soil. This year's World Cup also passed through Portugal at the Santa Cruz Ocean Spirit, where athletes from the Basque Country, England, Brazil, Spain, and Portugal competed for the podium. Basque Edu Etxeberria, junior Englishman Phillip Watson, and Brazilian Roberta Borsari won the event. It's worth noting that in the World Cup, the only class in contention is HP (Junior, Men, and Women). Depois da Ta a do Mundo em 2006 e da Expression Session + World Cup em 2008, eis que chega a Portugal - pela primeira vez - a prova maior do kayaksurf internacional: O Campeonato do Mundo. No ltimo Mundial (Pa s Basco 2007), foram v rias hip teses colocadas para a realiza o da prova ( frica do Sul, Austr lia, Brasil, EUA) mas, o l bi ingl s (juntamente com os kayaksurfistas lusos que se encontravam em Mundaka), conseguiu levar a melhor. After the World Cup in 2006 and the Expression Session + World Cup in 2008, Portugal welcomed, for the first time, the pinnacle of international kayaksurf: The World Championship. In the last World Championship (Basque Country 2007), several options were considered for hosting the event (South Africa, Australia, Brazil, USA), but the English lobby (along with Portuguese kayaksurfers in Mundaka) managed to prevail. Portugal gathered the most votes for hosting the event, and there it was, part of the prestigious Santa Cruz Ocean Spirit Festival from July 23 to August 2. Highlighting this year's calendar, we also had the III Kayaksurf Session held in Figueira da Foz on May 9. It's a kayaksurf.net event that received numerous public and private supports. This year's edition featured the pioneering organization of two exhibitions dedicated to kayaksurf. In 2009, another World Championship took place - this time, for waveski. It happened in Australia from September 5 to 12, and kayaksurf.net followed everything from afar thanks to the collaboration of Steve Farthing and Penny Bedford, both from our NEWS TEAM. Depois da primeira edi o em 2007, o Festival Ocean Spirit de Torres Vedras, passou a ser um evento incontorn vel na cena internacional do surf. Nas v rias modalidades de ondas participantes, passaram a figurar provas e eventos de kayaksurf, waveski, sit-on-top, kayak de mar e surfski. After the first edition in 2007, the Ocean Spirit Festival in Torres Vedras became an essential event in the international surf scene. Various paddle sports were included in the participating wave disciplines, such as kayaksurf, waveski, sit-on-top, sea kayak, and surfski. All these events uniquely and spectacularly propelled paddle sports in the waves. In 2010, following the success of what was considered the best World Kayaksurf Championship (2009), the Ocean once again included kayaksurf, waveski, and SOT. This year's program included a competition from the National Kayaksurf and Waveski Circuit, the International Kayaksurf and Waveski Open, and the SOT RPF Trophy. Este foi o ano do Mundial de Waveski que se realizou pela primeira vez no nosso pa s. O anfitri o foi, uma vez mais, o Festival ocean Spirit de Santa Cruz, Torres Vedras. Quase setenta atletas oriundos de 12 pa ses desfrutaram das ondas de Santa Cruz naquele que foi considerado por muitos como um dos melhores mundiais de sempre para o waveski. A representa o nacional contou com quatro atletas e Miguel Carvalho conseguiu um brilhante terceiro lugar em Juniores.

O kayaksurf.net esteve na organiza o e cobertura de todo o Campeonato e o reconhecimento deste xito, foi a recondu o do representante de Portugal (um dos vice-presidentes da World Waveski Surfing Association) para mais um bi nio (Luis Pedro Abreu).

This was the year of the Waveski World Championship, which took place for the first time in Portugal. The host was, once again, the Ocean Spirit Festival in Santa Cruz, Torres Vedras. Nearly seventy athletes from 12 countries enjoyed the waves of Santa Cruz in what many considered one of the best waveski world championships ever. The national representation had four athletes, and Miguel Carvalho achieved a brilliant third place in the Junior category. Depois do Mundial de Waveski, baterias apontadas para a Costa Este dos EUA. Decorreu de 29 de Setembro a 8 de Outubro em Outer Banks, o Mundial de Kayaksurf. Mais de 85 atletas oriundos de 14 pa ses acorreram ao evento organizado pela Associa o de Kayaksurf da Costa Este dos EUA. O evento contou com a presen a de um representante nacional a competir (Andr Pinto) e de Paulo Schmidt (FPS) como chefe de ju zes. Para al m desta representa o lusa, tamb m o software utilizado teve a marca nacional. After the Waveski World Championship, attention turned to the East Coast of the United States. From September 29 to October 8, the Kayaksurf World Championship took place in Outer Banks. More than 85 athletes from 14 countries attended the event organized by the East Coast Kayaksurf Association. The event featured a national representative in competition (Andr Pinto), and Paulo Schmidt (FPS) served as the head judge. Depois dos EUA, os australianos organizaram o Campeonato do Mundo de kayaksurf. Este ficar certamente lembrado como o menos medi tico de todos os eventos anteriores. A dist ncia geogr fica n o desculpa mas, de facto, a organiza o pecou pela pouca promo o do campeonato. Depois do cancelamento em 2013 do Mundial de Waveski no Brasil, frica do Sul avan ou com a organiza o do evento e tudo correu pelo melhor. Apesar das ondas escassearem para as finais, os atletas divertiram-se grande gra as habitual simpatia dos sul africanos. After the cancellation of the Waveski World Championship in Brazil in 2013, South Africa stepped up to organize the event, and everything went smoothly. Este foi o ano em que a bonita praia galega de Pantin recebeu os melhores do mundo do kayaksurf. Portugal esteve presente com a primeira equipa oficial da modalidade que contou com o alto patroc nio da Federa o Portuguesa de Canoagem. This was the year when the beautiful Galician beach of Pantin hosted the world's best kayaksurf athletes. Portugal was present with its first official team in the sport, generously sponsored by the Portuguese Canoeing Federation. PORTUGAL foi de novo palco de um mundial de waveski. Depois do evento de 2011, o festival Ocean Spirit recebeu uma vez mais os melhores do mundo do waveski. Northern Ireland hosted the Kayaksurf World Championship in Portrush from October 20 to 28. French kayaksurfer Pablo Arrouays emerged victorious in the highly competitive HP kayaksurf category, and the Basques once again secured the team world championship. A bonita cidade argentina de Mar del Plata recebeu o 17 Campeonato Mundial de Kayaksurf. O evento decorreu de 3 a 13 de maio e contou com a presen a de sete dezenas de participantes repartidos por seis pa ses. A organiza o proporcionou transmiss o direta (YouTube) de todo o campeonato bem como o acompanhamento das pontua es. No final, o Pa s Basco consagrou-se, uma vez mais, como a melhor equipa e, nas categorias OPEN de HP e IC, o dom nio foi total. The beautiful argentine city of Mar del Plata hosted the 17th World Kayaksurf Championship. The event took place from May 3rd to May 13th and saw the participation of seventy paddlers from six countries. The organization provided live streaming (YouTube) of the entire championship as well as score updates.
